ON THE HUNT FOR A NEW PAD
Seventies racing driver James Hunt makes today’s clutch of Formula One competitors look dull.
Hunt liked partying, drinking, drugs and chasing women and revelled in being a playboy.
He also behaved eccentrically at times, often dining alone in restaurants with his dog and turning up barefoot to official functions.
But his driving record was impressive, nevertheless, peaking in 1976 when he won the Formula One Championship while driving for McLaren.
After a spell in Spain as a tax exile, James returned to the UK to work alongside Murray Walker as a BBC racing commentator, and attempted a comeback as a racing driver.
During this period between 1980 and 1982 he lived on Normand Mews in Kensington, central London, in luxurious splendour in between his first and second marriages.
He later moved to Wimbledon and married his second wife with whom he had two children, one of which went on to be a racing driver.
James died in his sleep in 1993 at the age of 45.
His former Kensington home recently came on to the market and, vendor Dale Allen told magazine The Resident, he bought the house so he could park his collection of Ferraris in its garage.
The house is within a gated mews and has been given a luxurious update. Spread over two floors, it has a Miele & Gaggenau kitchen, an open-plan living space, four bedrooms and a roof terrace.
