Spanish translator required for toys
A MOTHER has complained to Tesco after her young son was left disappointed when he discovered the toys he saved up to buy, and their important character description booklet, were in Spanish.
Clare Bloomfield-Bailey contacted the supermarket giant after her son, Monty, purchased an unusual pack of three Shopkins - a range of tiny collectable toy based on, and named after, grocery store items - from the store in The Rushes.
Clare, from Wymeswold, told the Echo Monty loves the toys and does his homework and small jobs around the house in order to make a bit of money to buy the figurines.
She told the Echo: “The toys are a massive thing to Monty. They each have their own name - they’re named after different fruits and cakes - and he likes to know what they’re called.
“But when we got the toys home we found that they were in Spanish and he can’t understand why.”
Clare told the Echo she contacted Tesco via Facebook about the toys, which cost around £3, but she is unhappy with the action that has been taken.
She said: “I’ve complained and they’ve done nothing about it. It’s unacceptable for them not to take responsibility - why are they selling Spanish toys?
“I contacted the Facebook page and they keep not responding to me and we’re at the point where they don’t seem to be doing anything about it.
“I’ve been trying to sort it for the past few weeks.
“They’re a big company, they should be able to send one out. A little toy shop would really care about something like this.”
The Echo contacted Tesco and a spokesperson said: “We are looking into how this happened with our supplier. In the meantime we will be happy to make sure that the child gets some more Shopkins to add to their collection.”
