Badminton star looking forward to making World Championship debut after qualification success

LOUGHBOROUGH badminton star Jenny Moore says she simply cannot wait to make her World Championships debut in Glasgow this August after qualifying to compete in both mixed doubles and women’s doubles.

Moore, 21, and in her final year at Loughborough University, is ranked in and around the world’s top 50 in both disciplines and has already ‘doubled up’ on the some of the sport’s biggest stages, including the 2017 YONEX All England.

She plays mixed doubles with fellow Loughborough student Greg Mairs and the pair have enjoyed a fine run of form this year, reaching at least the quarter-final stage of their last three international tournaments, including the final of the Slovenia International.

But the step up to World Championship level brings another level of motivation and anticipation.

She said: “It’s the first time I have qualified for the Worlds and I am so excited. I am already counting down the days until we make the long road trip up to Glasgow.

“As it’s the first time I am playing, I am going there with the hopes of enjoying myself whilst playing the top players in the world. I fully intend to learn as much as I can from the experience.”

Moore’s intention is one shared by her women’s doubles partner Viki Williams who also admitted it was a dream come true to qualify for the sport’s showpiece major event.

“Words cannot describe how excited I am to play in my first World Championship. It is quite literally a dream come true.

“Playing amongst the world’s best badminton players will be an amazing experience and I am going with the intentions to enjoy every second.”

And like Moore, Williams knows the Worlds experience is one that can bring benefits for the senior circuit ahead.

“I am sure it will be a massive learning curve and one that I will remember forever,” she added.
