Wimbledon wildcard for Boulter
WOODHOUSE Eaves tennis star Katie Boulter has landed a wildcard entry to Wimbledon this year.
The announcement means 20-year-old Katie will be making her Wimbledon main draw debut this year and will pick up at least £35,000 in prize money.
She has also been given a wildcard into the women’s doubles event where she will pair up with Katie Swan.
Who she will face in both the singles and doubles is set to be revealed on Friday (June 30) after the Wimbledon qualifying tournament has been completed.
The wildcard from the All England Club follows a great few months for Boulter who rose to a career high ranking of 243 in May when she reached the final at the $60,000 ITF event at Kurume, Japan to consolidate her form which saw her win her third tour title in Turkey back in March.
Boulter said: “A huge thank you to Wimbledon for the wildcard into the womens singles and doubles draw.
“I’m so grateful for the opportunity.”
Boulter’s final tournament ahead of Wimbledon is taking place this week after she was given a place in the draw at the brand new $100,000 ITF Aegon Southsea Trophy.
She faced Germany’s Andrea Petkovic in the first round on Tuesday afternoon as the Echo went to press with a quarter final clash against either the Romanian number one seed Irina-Camelia Begu or China’s Han Xinyun if she defeated Petkovic.
