CREATIVE COUPLE’S RURAL GETAWAY FOR SALE

-

T his gorgeous house is the home of a highly unusual twosome who were at the heart of UK’s creative industry during the 1960s, and who have been responsible for the look of many celebrities, both past and present.

Watkins Farm belongs to photographer, hat maker and clothes designer James Wedge and his celebrity makeup partner Amanda Jackson-Sytner.

He is most famously responsible for Mick Jagger’s white frock coat worn at 1969’s infamous Stone in the Park free concert and is also a friend of several key UK fashion photographers including David Bailey and Terence Donovan.

James also used to have a shop on the Kings Road where “on Satur- days there always used to a be a Rolling Stone and Marianne Faithful used to be there on a regular basis,” he says.

Amanda has a starry client list including actress Helen Mirren.

This creative pair have for the past 27 years been holed up doing their thing in Sherborne, Dorset at Watkins Farm, which has a quintessentially Georgian symmetrical front façade and design, mixed in with contemporary features.

As well as five-bedrooms, three bathrooms and four-reception rooms, there’s six acres of paddocks and woodland, a pond, outside buildings including a studio and garages and a two-bedroom holiday cottage.

At the back are some exquisite formal gardens.

It’s currently for sale at £1.45 million through agent Humberts (01935 812323).
