Lingdale Golf club celebrates its round of 50 years
LINGDALE Golf Club celebrated its 50th anniversary with a special event looking back at the history of the club called ‘Back in Time.’
The former Mayor and Mayoress of Charnwood together with councillor David Snartt joined guests to commemorate the progress the club has made.
The course was built by the late David Tuck- er after he bought land in Woodhouse Eaves in 1966, opening a nine hole golf course in 1997.
David’s wife Mary and daughters Lindsay and Tina were in attendance and presented the golf club with an original oil painting of the founder David Tucker.
The former Mayor of Charnwood Coun David Gaskell unveiled a large Swithland slate that was found on the course and engraved with a special 50th anniversary anniversary logo.
Guests (including seven founder members of the club) had been invited to play the course in its original nine hole format before the event.
The journey from a barley field to the current 18 hole course is professionally displayed in the foyer of the clubhouse with a specially commissioned exhibition, featuring photographs all the way through the club’s lifetime.
Steve Boulton from the Anniversary Steering Group was delighted at how well the event was received by those who attended, he said: “It was a very special occasion.”
