Jake gets special surprise for his Blue Peter efforts

-

A LOUGHBOROUGH school pupil was visited by the editor of Blue Peter after he achieved all five badges.

Thorpe Acre Junior School pupil Jake Redfern got a wonderful surprise in a school assembly when he was presented his fifth and final Blue Peter badge by Ewan Vinnecombe.

Jake had set himself a goal to achieve all of the badges before leaving Thorpe Acre Juniors.

Being awarded the badges requires many skills; to achieve the Blue badge Jake learnt Makaton (sign language) and for the Sports badge he taught cricket.

The 11-year-old reviewed a Blue Peter programme to achieve the Purple badge and the Silver badge was awarded following an assembly where Jake shared his badge-collecting hobby.

To achieve his Green badge, Jake set up a recycling scheme where school uniform can be redistributed.

As well as the honour of receiving his Green badge from the Blue Peter editor, Jake received special personal messages from Radzi Chinyanganya and Lindsey Russell, two of the Blue Peter presenters, which were shown on the screen to the whole school.

Following the assembly, a beaming Jake said: “I was so shocked when Radzi came onto the screen and mentioned our school and then said my name.

“I just couldn’t believe it! Having my Green badge presented to me by the editor of Blue Peter was amazing and something I will always remember.”

Rebecca Crawley, deputy headteacher, commented: “We are all very proud of Jake and all that he has achieved - it was quite an emotional assembly!”
