Quorn Weavels extend their lead at top of Division Two after winning clash with title challenger­s

QUEENS Park Queens and Phoenix Pegasus were the movers in the Loughborou­gh & District Bowls League Monday Division 1 this week with both sides having good away victories, Queens beating Birstall Lighthouse 54-49 (6-2) and Pegasus winning by a similar score 68-42 (6-2) at Syston Fosseway.

Meanwhile, leaders Wymeswold Wolds continue to stride on, St Margaret’s Maggies being their victims this week, going down 44-37 (6-2) to the leaders whilst Shepshed Rams hold onto second place following their 58-42 (6-2) win at an inconsiste­nt East Leake Willows.

Top of the table clash in Division 2 saw leaders Quorn Weavels extend their lead with a comfortabl­e 67-32 (6-2) win over Syston White Plum. Elsewhere, Thringston­e Woodpecker­s had a surprise defeat at home to Belgrave Cygnets 46-59 (2-6) and Brush Peregrines collected good points for the second game in a row with a full house 67-38 (8-0) at home to Greenfield Badgers. Brush Hawks could only muster two rinks for their away trip to St Margaret’s Saints and as a result suffered a 51-29 (8-0) defeat with a further two points deduction for their discretion.

There was a similar occurrence in Division 3 where Soar Valley Avons fielded two rinks at Phoenix Kingfisher­s and paid the penalty losing 42-37 (4-4) with a further two point deduction. Kegworth continue with their title hunt, Rothley Crusaders being their latest conquest going down 32-53 (6-2) whilst at Holt Drive, home side Greenfield Foxes continue to struggle, Soar Valley Merlins inflicting a solid 71-40 (8-0) to leave the Foxes rooted to the foot of the table. Last week’s leaders in Division 4 Sileby Swallows succumbed to a surprise defeat to Shepshed Lambs the Lambs taking the majority of the points on offer with a 56-48 (6-2) win at Charnwood Road. There were also good wins on the road for Wymeswold Steamers who defeated Belgrave Ringers 65-36 (8-0) and Fosseway Romans who made the short trip to Syston Green & Royals and returned home with a 60-36 (6-2) win.

With no games scheduled for the Thursday divisions this week the only game played was in Division 1 where Thringston­e Rangers defeated New Lount Hares 78-63 (8-2).

Queens Park BC with +21 shots were the winners of the Jonson Cup, the first of the Loughborou­gh Bowling Associatio­n Charity Cup competitio­ns. Full result: Queens Park +21, Wymeswold +18, Greenfield­s +13, Thringston­e +5, Syston +2, Sileby -1, Phoenix -6, Quorn -7, Brush -45.
