PLAYGROUP NEWS. Caroline Onions stepped has stepped down as chairman of Willoughby on the Wolds playgroup and has been replaced by Katie Judson.

Then retiring leader has been praised and thanked for all she did for the group with her efforts has ensuring the smooth running of the group.

Said members at the annual meeting: “We would like to thank her for her efforts and unwavering support.”

Anyone who would like to reserve a place for their child from September is invited to pop in to a session or contact 07482 062367 for more informatio­n. The group is open all day Monday, Wednesday and Thursday 9.15am-3.45pm and Friday 9.15am-1.00pm at the village hall. The successful baby and toddler group now runs every Wednesday morning during term time 10.00 – 11.30am. OPEN CHURCHES WEEKEND. All Saints Parish Church at Willoughby on the Wolds is taking part in the Open Churches Weekend event.

The church will be open to visitors 11am - 5pm on both Saturday and Sunday, 22nd and 23rd July and there will be a Flower Festival taking place over the weekend.

There will be a Songs of Praise service at 6pm on the Sunday evening.

In recent months a number of First World War Centenary Peals have been rung at the church.

A peal was rung, in two hours 51 minutes, on the centenary of the death of Private Albert Smith of Willoughby, aged 40.

Further peals have been rung for Lance Corporal John Nixon who died on 24th May 1917, aged 20, and for Private Joseph Cross who died on 6th June 1917, aged 19.
