VILLAGE HALL UPDATE.

-

Costock Village Hall Management Committee have welcomed a new member, Elaine Jackman.

The committee have agreed that the step ladders used in the hall are to be replaced.

The committee were told by chairman John Collins that the Parish Council are progressing the proposed new constitution. Its chnairman Coun. Kath Owen is to ensure the proposal is in line with the Charity Commissions requirements. The Bar area in the hall has now been repainted.

The committee were told that some electrical work has been completed and a spur point has been installed for the kitchen water boiler, 2 extra kitchen counter top double wall sockets have been installed and one single socket blanked off, the emergency exit light in the main

hall to the main entrance has been moved to above the small hall door as the small doors are not large enough for some wheelchairs. This work completes a number of items from the risk assessment.

Funds were received from Notts County Council member Coun. Reg Adair which paid for a projector screen, this has been

mounted on the East wall and was used for the last Quiz.

The Chairman thanked the committee for their hard work and looked forward to the coming year.

Members were notified that Geoffrey Hallam had bequeathed £5000 to the Village Hall in his will.

The chairman said Geoffrey was a reserved unassuming man who had lived in the village for most of his life. Members suggested that some of this money should be spent on a seat or similar item of remembrance.

Objectives for the coming year for the committee were to ensure The Hall is to be maintained in good order and to organise and oversee the replacement of the main Hall lighting with dimmable LED units. It was pointed out this will provide a small saving in energy, require significantly less maintenance and provide lighting suitable for various events, particularly those that require lower levels of light.

It was also planned to organise and oversee the construction of a new sloping floor to the east exit door of the Main hall. The existing slope is of a temporary construction and has a small step down. The

new step will provide improved disabled egress.

It is also hoped to install a cinema system , subject to funding, to have films shows suitable for all

sections of the community. It will also provide an opportunity to run events that include the younger generation.

CHURCH WARDENS. Costock St Giles Parish Church have re-elected their two Church Wardens - Kath Owen and Gill Starmer - following their annual Parochial Church Meeting.

Mrs Owen, who is also chairman of the parish council in Costock, agreed to be St. Giles Deanery Synod representative for the next three years.

The church Electoral Roll consisting of twenty-two people was presented to the meeting and accepted. The Rev Tim Parker attended the meeting.

At the meeting reports as to the Fabric of the Church, the activities of the life of the Church in the previous twelve months and the activities of Deanery Synod were given, and the Financial Accounts for 2016 were also presented and discussed.

Reverend Tim encouraged all present to discuss the balance of services on offer at Costock, including the time of the current Afternoon Praise service.

It was decided that the service pattern would be re-visited in October and people were encouraged to continue to think and pray about this and any future improvements which can be made to the building.

Thanks were offered to everyone who in any way contributes to the life of the beautiful Church.
