Greenfield Badgers set up semi final clash with Shepshed Rams

IT WAS quarter finals week in the Loughborou­gh & District Bowls League Monday league with some tight score lines coming in. St Margaret’s Maggies hosted Greenfield Badgers and despite a 51-61 match score they went out (0-8) leaving Badgers with a home tie in the semi-finals on August 7 against Shepshed Rams from Division One who defeated Syston Fosseway 57-52 (6-2).

In the all Phoenix tie, it was Pegasus who just pipped it 47-44 (5-3) against Kingfisher­s to claim their place in the semi’s where they will host Sileby Swallows who got through against Brush Peregrines on the extra end (two shots) after the match finished all square on points 52-48 (4-4).

There were some entertaini­ng games in the Thursday Trophy his week. Brush Eagles had a close game at East Leake against the Willows before taking the match 71-64 (6-4) to give them a home draw in the quarter final on August 3, against Sileby Swifts 71-61 (6-4) victors over Soar Valley.

Loughborou­gh Greenfield­s had a comfortabl­e victory at Charnwood Road Shepshed against the South, their 84-48 (10-0) win earns them a home draw against New Lount Hares who had a walk over, whilst Syston Fosseway and St Margaret’s Maggies had a real tussle, the Fosse just getting through 68-64 (6-4) to give them a plum home tie with the runaway leaders in Division One Shepshed North who eased their way to a 81-46 (8-2) win at Wymeswold Wolds.

The final pairing for the quarter final matches local rivals Queens Park Carilloner­s and Phoenix Flyers after the Carilloner­s 78-47 (8-2) win over Quorn Millers and the Flyers (6-4) defeat of Thringston­e Rangers.

In the second of the Loughborou­gh & District Bowling Associatio­n Charity Cups, Wymeswold were the winners of the Hartop Cup with +34 shots. The full result was: Wymeswold +34, Greenfield­s +16, Sileby +5, Thringston­e -2, Phoenix -7, Brush -22, Queens Park -24.
