Jailed after breach of town centre ban

A MAN has been jailed for 10 weeks after breaching an injunction which banned him from entering parts of Loughborough town centre.

Charnwood Borough Council secured a court order against Brett Bott and others in December last year. The injunction banned the individuals from entering Beehive Lane car park and from engaging or threatening to engage in conduct which could cause harassment, alarm or distress in the town centre.

It was later amended to also ban Bott, of no fixed address, from a wider area within the town centre.

Bott was jailed for eight days in February for breaching the injunction and last week Leicester County Court was told he had breached the order 16 times since his release on February 8.

One incident happened on February 12 when Bott was caught on CCTV injecting a substance into his leg in Beehive Lane car park.

Bott admitted 15 of the breaches and as well as being jailed was ordered to pay £802 in costs.

Judge Alison Hampton told Bott that in jail he would have more time to work with prison drug workers and arrange proper accommodation.

After the hearing, Julie Robinson, head of neighbourhood services at the borough council, said: “The council took out the injunctions to protect the public from repeated anti-social behaviour in the town centre.

“Throughout this process we have continued to offer support and advice to Mr Bott, and other individuals, regarding housing, drug and alcohol issues. However, there have been a number of breaches of the order and the only option left was to seek the committal of Mr Bott, which we have done as a last resort in the interest of public safety.

“The injunction remains in place with regards to a number of individuals and we will continue to monitor the situation, work with our partner organisations including the police, and take appropriate action when necessary.”
