Pictorial archive of Bradgate Park estate

- By David Godsall david.godsall@trinitymirror.com

A PICTORIAL archive of the Bradgate Park estate is being created by a photographic society.

This year sees the 90th anniversary since Charles Bennion bought Bradgate Park from the Grey family which was then given in trust for the people of Leicestershire.

In partnership with the Bradgate Park Trust, Leicester Forest Photographic Society (LFPS) has begun a new project creating a pictorial archive of the estate and the work the trust undertakes to care for the park.

LFPS members have been helping capture current images of the park, including establishing fixed locations where images will be taken across a year, so seasonal changes can be seen.

LFPS members have compiled their own archive of prints taken on the estate over the years for display at an exhibition in the Deer Barn at Bradgate Park from August 5 and 6. There will also be a permanent exhibition on three new digital frames purchased as part of Bradgate Park’s Big Lottery Celebrate grant.

Leicester Forest Photographic Society is the largest photography club in Leicestershire and was established more than 50 years ago. The club meets every Thursday during the season at the Civic Centre in Braunstone at 7.45pm.

The club caters for all levels from absolute beginners via workshops to photographers aspiring to work at national and international level. There is a series of photographic talks from nationally recognised photographers. Alongside this there are regular competitions where club members come together to share their work.
