THE organisers of a charity fund-raising rugby festival are hoping this weekend’s event will be a record-breaker.

Robbie’s Rugby Festival 2017 will take place on Saturday, (July 29), at Loughborough Grammar School Playing Fields in Quorn with more than 2,000 people expected to attend the event.

Now in its ninth year, the competitive daytime rugby matches and party on the pitch, will raise life changing funds in aid of The Robbie Anderson Cancer Trust and The Jake McCarthy Foundation

In 2016 more than 2,000 people attended the festival and organisers hope to set a new attendance record this year to support the main Robbie’s 10’s, Jake’s Round Robin, Ladies 7’s as well as the Rugby Village, Pimms and Cham- pagne Garden and the Hospitality Tent.

This year a host of celebrities and sports stars have filmed short videos backing the festival including the British & Irish Lions captain Sam Warburton and coach Warren Gatland.

Georgie Fowle, organiser of Robbie’s Rugby Festival said: “We have been overwhelmed by the support and generosity shown by everyone towards the festival over the last eight years. We were all delighted that the 2016 event raised an excess of £12,500 for both The Robbie Anderson Cancer Trust and The Jake McCarthy Foundation.

“Our hope for 2017 is to not only to increase the total further, but to also raise awareness of the incredible work both these two charities do and to help engage more people to join the fight against cancer.”
