Views of old station house in Shepshed

-

DO you remember Shepshed railway station?

Well the son of a family who used to live in the former station master’s house and who’s dad was an avid photographer has been in touch with Looking Back and has shared some wonderful photographs of the old station house in Shepshed.

Jim Matthews, 74, from Woodhouse Eaves, said that he lived in the house with his father Charles, his mother Joyce, and his sister Susan - but that he only lived there for a few months before he went away and joined the Royal Navy.

Jim said that his family lived in the house between 1960-1966.

Jim said that his dad used to take photographs all the time, and said that he was a brilliant photographer.

He said that trains only passed through the station occasionally but recalls a train from Coalville to Loughborough that would pass through twice a day.

Jim has kept all of his father’s old photo albums from when the family lived in the station master’s house and has kindly shared them with Looking Back.

Do you know anything more about Shepshed railway station? Maybe you remember the station or even used to take the train from the station? Or maybe you remember the Matthews family from when they lived in Shepshed?
