Shepshed North secure win to stay top of Thursday Division One

THE Loughborou­gh & District Bowls League Monday League had a free week this week to enable teams to catch up on outstandin­g games, and Syston Fosseway and East Leake Willows took the opportunit­y to pull forward their game, the Fosseway taking the points in a 63-44 (6-2) win to move into third place.

Thursday Division 1 leaders Shepshed North hosted St Margaret’s Maggies and despite losing on two rinks, finished up 76-52 (6-4) winners giving second placed Brush Eagles the chance to close the gap at the top which they duly did with an emphatic 94-46 (10-0) win over Thringston­e Rangers. Loughborou­gh Greenfield­s sprung a bit of a surprise at Holt Drive defeating New Lount Hares 74-54 (7-3).

There were some unexpected results in Division 2 where leaders Syston Fosseway lost away to Quorn Millers 56-80 (2-8) and Sileby Swifts took all the points from their visit to Sutton Bonington with a comfortabl­e 79-49 (10-0) victory. The bottom two teams faced each other at Queens Park where visitors Kegworth earned themselves a hard fought victory over hosts Carilloner­s 68-66 (6-4). Meanwhile in Division 3 leaders Phoenix Flyers extended their lead at the top to ten points and guarantee themselves promotion after their 75-54 (8-2) win at Rothley Knights.

The third of the Loughborou­gh & District Bowling Associatio­n Charity Cups was played on Tuesday evening, with New Lount BC winning the Armstrong Cup plus 62 shots up, the only other team to set a positive shots total were second placed Sileby BC with +48. The full result was: 1st New Lount BC +62, 2nd Sileby +48, 3rd Quorn -2, 4th Greenfield­s -6, 5th Wymeswold -10 (+3 on extra end), 6th Brush -10 (0), 7th Syston -18, 8th Phoenix -24, 9th Queens Park -40
