Apartments overlooking Queen’s Park

-

THE MASTERPLAN identifies six sites for development in Loughborough, including potential for a two storey car park, the remodelling of the Sainsbury’s store in Green Close Lane and more student and residential apartments.

Some of the sites were included in the original 2007 masterplan, one of which is Baxter Gate.

The new plan draft states that Baxter Gate could be the site of a two storey car park, student housing, residential apartments and a ground floor retail space with a health centre.

A three to five storey development of residential apartments is the preferred option for land at the Aumberry Gap, with town houses visioned along Pinfold Gate.

The amount of car parking spaces at Granby Street car park could be reduced, in order to make way for the middle section of the car park to be redeveloped for town houses - resulting in a new pedestrian route created from Devonshire Lane to Queen’s Park.

A three storey residential apartment block overlooking Queen’s Park is also a proposal for the car park site.

The plan states that the Southfield Road extension car park could be transformed into a residential flats up to five storeys high if the proposal is given the go ahead.

The masterplan also mentions that although Sainsbury’s in Green Close Lane has confirmed there are no immediate plans to redevelop or relocate the store, that the area would benefit from a remodelling of the store entrance.

It proposes that the remodelling could accommodate a block of student housing and that an arts/lighting installation would improve the look of the Ashby Road facade.
