-

POLICE are investigating the theft of two cars that were stolen in Shepshed while the owner was on holiday.

Leicestershire Police told the Echo that it received a report that two sets of car keys had been stolen from a house in Leicester Road, Shepshed and that subsequently two cars had been stolen from the property.

Police said that it received an emergency call at 7.53am on July 19.

The owner of the cars contacted the Echo and said that they had been on holiday in Gran Canaria when they received a phone call from a member of their fam- ily asking if they had asked someone to look after their cars whilst they were away.

The owner told the Echo: “I thought that they were joking at first, but then when I realised they weren’t I got into a real panic but they rang the police straight away to report that they had been stolen.

“It was the worst possible news to get when you’re on holiday I just didn’t know what to think.

“We decided to stay till the end of the holiday but are home now, because we didn’t want to let it ruin the holiday but it was hard not to stop thinking about it.”

The owner said that both a black Vauxhall Corsa and a white BMW One Series had been stolen.

They think that the cars had been taken between 9pm and midnight on Tuesday, July 18.

A spokesperson from Leicestershire Police said: “We are currently investigating and work is being done to recover the stolen cars.
