Quorn force replay in the FA Cup

-

FA CUP EXTRA PRELIMINARY ROUND RETFORD UNITED 1

QUORN 1 QUORN travelled to North Nottinghamshire without the unavailable James Hicks, Rob Mulonga and the injured Sam Moore. Suleiman Nassor partnered new signing Amarvir Sandhu up front and Danny Chapman made his competitive debut alongside Jimmy Brooks in the heart of the defence.

The returning Ryan Thacker was in goal and new skipper Niall Mather lined up at left back.

The blustery conditions made it difficult for either side to settle but Quorn had a great chance to take the lead in the fifth minute, Nassor cut in from the right but hit his shot straight at the keeper with Sandhu unmarked at the far post waiting for a tap in to open his account.

Quorn were struggling to show any of their pre-season form and the home side took the lead with a poor defensive goal.

A long free-kick from deep in the Retford half caught Quorn out and a simple cross allowed Luke Francis to convert first time from close range. The home continued to adapt better to the conditions and went to the break deservedly ahead.

The second period began with a spell of Quorn pressure but without any real chances to threaten the score-line, the home team stemmed the flow and a breakaway should have brought about a second goal but Thacker saved the day with a superb stop.

Quorn regained the territory advantage and should have got something more when Sandhu beat the keeper to the ball but was taken out just outside the box with the goal at his mercy. The referee inexplicably only gave the offender a yellow card and the free kick was blocked by the wall.

The home missed a couple of great chances to settle the tie and were made to pay when substitute Dom Brennan unleashed a brilliant 25 yard curler into the top corner to level the scores.

Quorn went in search of the winner but the last 15 minutes saw the home side hang on to take the tie to a replay at Quorn on Wednesday night (7.45pm kick off).
