Glennon steers Cropston into Orton Cup final
BROOMLEYS C.C. were the visitors to Waterfield Road on Thursday for the semi final of The Joe Orton Cup against Cropston - a game played over 14 eight ball overs a team..
Cropston captain Ian Allen won the toss and elected to bat, with openers Ross Wormleighton and Brady Glennon putting on 17 for the first wicket, Wormleighton taking 11 from the first over.
A third wicket partnership of 71 was put together between Daniel Hickinbottom and Glennon, before Hickinbottom was run out by a direct hit throw for 16. Glennon went onto to score 70 in 58 balls including three 4s and a six. He was well supported by Max Lewin and Ian Allen with excellent running between the wickets putting the fielding side under pressure as Cropston posted a score of 117-7.
Broomleys openers Scott Moore and Springer put on 32 for the first wicket but after four overs Cropston took the pace off the ball with Dan Hickinbottom and Ethan Hawkins bowling in tandem.
This slowed the scoring rate as wickets started to fall and Broomleys started to fall behind the run rate required. Cropston captain Ian Allen looking for a third spinner turned to Brady Glennon who bowled two overs taking 2-7 while Allen himself took 4-18 in just four overs as Broomleys were restricted to 91.
This victory puts Cropston into the final against Loughborough Town which will be played next month.
