Sanders grabs six wickets as Wymeswold win with ease

-

WYMESWOLD bowler Sam Sanders took six wickets in his side’s comprehensive 10-wicket win at Gotham 2nds in Division F of the South Notts Cricket League.

The home side batted first but were bowled out for just 33 in the 20th over, with Sanders taking 6 for 19 while fellow opening bowler Dan Barry took 4 for 12.

Barry then took over with the bat scoring 10 not out and fellow opener Harry Bowley was unbeaten on 21 as the Wolds side romped to victory in just 3.5 overs.

The result pushes Wymeswold into second place in the table and on course for promotion with just four games to play.

Meanwhile in Division M of the league Wymeswold 2nd XI scored a fine 20-run win at home to table-toppers Nottingham Deaf.

The visitors won the toss and chose to bowl first in a game reduced to 32 overs per-side due to the threat of storms.

Skipper Rik Matthams continued his fine form with the bat hitting 42, and with Graham Barry’s 34 Wymeswold ended on 111 for 7 from 32 overs.

In reply Josh Fossey claimed two early wickets, but the Nottingham side appeared to be cruising at 41 for 3. However, a 4 for 17 haul from veteran spinner Andy Matthews turned the game and the visitors were soon 49 for 8.

The tail wagged, but Phil Parkes captured the final wicket with the score on 91, recording a 20-run win for Wymeswold.
