CCTV footage captures raiders ransacking town beauty salon
MORE than £5,000 worth of stock was stolen from a Loughborough beauty salon after it was broken into in the early hours.
Thieves kicked down the front door and took makeup and products, an iPad, a cash float and even staff tips from the Beautique salon in Churchgate, Loughborough.
Salon owner, Clare Gleadell, told the Echo that she realised the store had been broken into when she arrived at work on Wednesday, August 23.
She said that when she got there the front door looked like it had been kicked open and when she walked into the salon she realised it had been looted.
She said that she then rang the police, and later that afternoon watched over the CCTV footage of the thieves in the shop.
She said: “We’ve been here for five years and this is the first time that this has ever happened.
“It is scary, and this place is a home from home for myself and the staff that work here and it is horrible to think that someone else has been in here.
“I think it is a real problem in the town centre and I just consider ourselves lucky that this has just happened once.
“Fortunately we haven’t had to close the shop, and the staff have been brilliant and I have had a fantastic response from social media.”
Clare said that she watched the CCTV footage from inside the shop and it scared her even more.
She said: “We all watched the CCTV together and were just shocked, and couldn’t believe that it was in our store.
“It really is scary, and to think that it could happen again at any time.”
Leicestershire Police told the Echo that it received a report at 9.25am on Wednesday, August 23 that between 8pm the night before (Tuesday, August 22) and 9.25am there had been a break in at a shop in Churchgate, Loughborough.
A police spokesperson said that thieves had broke in through the front door of the shop, and that they were looking at CCTV footage and enquiries were currently ongoing.
