Tractor trailer overturns on busy A6 junction
FIREFIGHTERS and police were called to a junction in Hathern on Wednesday, August 23, after a tractor trailer, carrying a forklift, overturned.
Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service received a call at 10.40am reporting the incident at the junction of the A6 Derby Road and A6006 Hathern.
A tactical response vehicle from Loughborough was sent to the scene. On arrival it was confirmed that a tractor trailer carrying Manitou farm machinery had overturned. Police were also in attendance.
The machine was reported to be at a 45 degree angle and leaking diesel onto the carriageway.
A small amount of diesel had entered a storm drain and it was stopped using an ‘environmental grab pack’.
Assistance was requested from a recovery company and the Highways Agency was requested to attend by police to assess repairs to the road and clean up.
A cordon was placed around the incident for public and crew safety while they were awaiting the arrival of the recovery firm.
The recovery firm arrived just before noon and a plan was put together to right the trailer.
At 12.54pm the fire service reported that the tractor vehicle had been loaded onto a low loader by the recovery company and the road was being cleaned and repaired by highways workers.
The Echo contacted Leicestershire Police and a spokesperson said: “We received a call at 10.37am to report that a tractor had overturned on the A6006, at the crossroads on the A6 Hathern. A tractor was pulling a forklift and it fell into the road and blocked the lane. The road was reopened at 1.28pm.”
Area Traffic Control Leicester reported that the incident caused “severe congestion”.
