MAJOR roadworks are to take place on a number of main Loughborough roads and could cause traffic chaos for drivers.

Roads including the A6 One Ash roundabout, the A60 Nottingham Road, Ashby Road, Thorpe Acre Road, Radmoor Road and Tennyson Road are all set to close over the next few weeks to allow Leicestershire County Council to carry out carriageway patching works.

A60 Nottingham Road will be closed between Cotes village and the Brush entrance near the railway bridge from Monday, September 11, until Thursday, September 14, for three nights from 8pm until 6am each night.

The diversion will be via the B589, A6 Derby Road, A6 Derby Road (Hathern), A6006 (Hathern), Ashby Road (Rempstone), Rempstone Road (Hoton), Loughborough Road (Hoton) and vice versa.

Epinal Way will be closed between Ashby Road roundabout and Forest Road roundabout and will be closed from Monday, September 4, until Thursday, September 7, from 9.30am till 3.30pm each day.

Thorpe Acre Road will be closed from the junction of Windsor Road and the junction of Knightthorpe Road on Thursday, September 7, from 7am till 7pm and the diversion route will be via Windsor Road, Knightthorpe Road.

Radmoor Road will be closed for its entire length on Friday, September 8, for one day from 7am till 7pm.

Tennyson Road will be closed from Knighthorpe Road to Alan Moss Road, on Wednesday, September 13, for one day from 9.30am till 7pm and the diversion route will be via Knightthorpe Road and Epinal Way to Alan Moss Road.

The A6 from One Ash roundabout to Shelthorpe Road, will be closed overnight on Wednesday, September 13, from 8pm till 6am.

During the closure the alternative route for traffic heading to the A6 southbound will be via Shelthorpe Road, A6004, Loughborough Road Quorn, High Street Quorn, Leicester Road Quorn, Granite Way.

The alternative route for traffic heading towards Loughborough will be via the A6004 and Shelthorpe Road.

The county council told the Echo that the duration of the legal order for the roadworks is for 12 months.

This means that if for example the weather prevents the work taking place, or there is a police incident, then the council can use the same legal order to undertake the works on a different date over the next 12 months.

A Leicestershire County Council spokesman said: “The roads will be closed in September so that we can carry out carriageway patching works.

“The roads will be closed either overnight or during off peak hours during the day to minimise disruption.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
