Lipreading classes in Loughborough

-

LIPREADING Awareness Week, September 11-16

Did you know that hearing loss affects one in six of the population in this country? That’s over 10 million people of all ages. Although hearing loss may be implicated in increased risk of dementia and other health issues, such as depression, hearing loss itself is seldom spoken of, which makes matters worse, because treating your hearing loss can reduce that risk.

Did you know that Britain is ahead of the rest of the world?

We are the only country that has a professional qualification to train tutors to provide “Lipreading and Managing Hearing Loss”. Yet far too few people know about these valuable classes.

Modern hearing aids are excellent minicomputers but they don’t cure hearing loss and this is where a Lipreading and Managing Hearing Loss classes can help.

Classes teach you to let your eyes help your ears and fill in the bits of conversation that might have been missed.

At the group you meet others with similar problems, gain confidence as well as learn tactics and strategies to communicate better. Oh, and classes are great fun!

The even better news is that there is a Lipreading class that runs in Loughborough Library on Thursday mornings and a new term starts on October 5th.

One member of the class, Margaret, said “Being in such a supportive group helps a lot; you never feel silly if you don’t understand” and another member, Rowan, added “Using what I have learned in the class makes hearing loss easier to cope with”.
