Old fashioned love story with classic show songs

-

RESIDENTS are invited to head over to Loughborough Town Hall and be swept away to the South Pacific with LAOS’ latest production.

The award-winning Loughborough theatre company are bringing Rodgers and Hammerstein’s timeless musical back to the town.

The classic piece contains some of the most famous songs in musical theatre including Some Enchanted Evening, There Is Nothing Like A Dame, I’m Gonna Wash That Man Right Outta My Hair and Bali Hai.

It also promises to get toes tapping with Bloody Mary, Younger Than Springtime, Happy Talk and I’m In Love With A Wonderful Guy.

An instant hit, which became the second longest running Broadway show at the time, South Pacific won 10 Tony awards.

It is a wonderfully old fashioned love story, underpinned by the darker themes of war and racial prejudice - and LAOS director James Nelson has put a whole new slant on the production, that starts even before the overture.

As audience members head into the auditorium, they will find themselves among the guests at a social event on the US Navy base.

Popular Loughborough - and West End - performer Jonathan Penton heads LAOS’ cast as Emile De Becque alongside Gemma Landers as Nellie Forbush.

They are joined by Ollie Lewin as Lt Joe Cable, Chris Wilson as Luther Billis, Gemma Baxter as Bloody Mary, Effie Langley-Evans as Liat, Richard York as Captain Brackett and Kevin Clarke as Commander Harbison.

Support roles are taken by Ian Dean, Josh Hill, John Smith, Jack Cooling and Sean Hickling.

The show runs from Tuesday, September 12 until Saturday, September 16 at 7.30pm each night, plus a Saturday matinee at 2.30pm.

Tickets are available from company members,. from the box office on 01509 231914 or by searching ‘South Pacific’ at www. loughborough town hall. co.uk
