Performance workshops lead to show
CHILDREN of Charnwood went from page to stage in two exciting Show In A Week performances.
Youngsters took part in a fortnight of performance workshops at Loughborough Town Hall - which covered the whole process of putting on a full musical theatre production together in only five days.
Currently in its fourth year, in partnership with Loughborough-based Brightlights Theatre School, the venue’s Show In A Week scheme provides children aged between six and 16 years the chance to create a final performance inspired by a well-known story, with this year’s titles being The Jungle Book and Guys and Dolls.
For the first time in the scheme’s history, the final performances took place on the Main Hall stage, allowing for flexibility in technical delivery and better use of the venue’s professional lighting and sound stage equipment.
Robbie Kerr, venue manager at Loughborough Town Hall, said: “The Show In A Week fortnight is one of my favourite times during the year.
“It’s tremendous to see young people being inspired not just by the script and direction during rehearsals, but also in developing the confidence to set foot and perform on our Main Hall stage in front of a packed audience.
“Each year the scheme has got bigger and better in partnership with Brightlights, with some of our biggest final performance attendances in recent years.”
Nick Sutcliffe, principle at Brightlights Theatre School, said: “Our fourth year of partnering with Loughborough Town Hall for Show in a Week has proved to be the best yet.
“Now performing on the Main Stage at the end of the week means the students showcase their work in a truly professional setting. The standard of talent on display during both weeks was breathtaking, and we can’t wait for next year!”
