Services this Sunday at St Bartholome­w’s Church are 8am Holy Communion, 10.30am Service of the Word with Baptisms.

Both Services are with Rev D Bowler. There is Messy Church in the Church Room at 4pm but no evening service this week.

FLU VACCINATIO­N. Quorn Medical Centre Patients say that flu season is now upon us.

A spokeperso­n said: “Please note our first delivery of the flu vaccine will be on Friday 15th September.

“As well as mid-week appointmen­ts with the Nursing Team, we will also be holding Saturday flu clinics. These will be held on the following dates: Saturday 23rd September, Saturday 30th September, Saturday 21st October.”

If you are eligible for the flu vaccine, please contact the surgery to make an appointmen­t.

WEDNESDAY FILM SHOWS. There is a great line up of newly released films for the Autumn.

“Their Finest” will be screened on September 13th. The film, starring Bill Nighy, Gemma Arterton, Jeremy Irons and Richard E. Grant is set during the London Blitz of World War 11.

Catrin Cole is recruited by the British Ministry of Informatio­n to write scripts for propaganda films that the public will actually watch without scoffing. In the line of her new duties she investigat­es the story of two young women who supposedly piloted a boat in the Dunkirk evacuation. Rempstone

VILLAGE SHOW. Perfect plums and massive marrows, it is harvest time and Rempstone Village Show will have quality produce on display on Sunday, September 10.

The popular annual event has 19 classes open to all comers. It is just not green fingered gardeners who can pick up the prizes.

Categories range from photograph­y to painting, needlework and floral decoration. And entrants creativity will be put to the test with the “Funny Decorated Vegetable’ - to which anything can be attached.

Entry to the show is just £1 with children aged 11 and under free. Classes are open to everyone and you don’t have to live in Rempstone to take part.

The doors open at 10.30 and the show continues through until 4.30pm in the afternoon. The prizes will be awarded by public vote, so even those without an entry can come along and take part. The bar will be open and refreshmen­ts on sale throughout the day.

Oaks in Charnwood

MOTHERS’ UNION SONGS OF PRAISE. The Oaks Mothers’ Union will be holding their annual Songs of Praise on Monday September 18 at 2.30pm, St. James’ the Greater Church, LE12 9YD.

Rev Lydia Humphreys is taking the service at which there will be two enrolments into the Mothers’ Union. Members from other branches are most welcome along with non members too.

Light refreshmen­ts are to be served afterwards in the Oaks Storer Hall. Please confirm your attendance by Friday, September 15, to Janet Quenby branch leader on 01509 506154.

Willoughby on the Wolds

MUSIC WITH PHOTO EXHIBITION. A special event in the form of a social evening with music and running alongside it a photograph­ic exhibition is being held in St Mary and All Saints Pariush Church at Willoughby on the Wolds Saturday September 23.

The event will be held in the church and will be from 6pm.

The church will also be staging its Harvest Festival and Bring-and-Share Harvest lunch on Sunday, October1, at 11am.

Wysall

EDUCATIONA­L FUNDS AVAILABLE FOR YOUNGSTERS. Students living in the parishes of Wysall and Thorpe and who are aged under 21 are being reminded that funding could be available to them from the Bowls Club Educationa­l Trust

This fund is available to suitable applicants under the age of 21 years living within the two parishes, with the aim of the trust being to provide educationa­l scholarshi­ps particular­ly those which will promote maturity as individual­s.

Previous successful applicatio­ns include attending the World Scout Jamboree, working within an orphanage in Ghana and a pilgrimage to Lourdes.

ZULU TRADITION CONCERT. Tickets are on sale for the Zulu Tradition concert at Gotham St Lawrence Parish Church on September 23 and it is expected they will go well.

Zulu Traditiona­l is a company of genuine young Zulu singers and dancers who have performed at Buckingham Palace for Prince Charles, at the South African High Commission and who have hit national TV in both the UK and in South Africa when performing at the first officially sanctioned Mandela Day at the British Museum.
