Leigh misses out on a spot in 2018 British Talent Cup

-

HATHERN teenager Harry Leigh has missed out on selection for the inaugural 2018 British Talent Cup.

The 13-year-old race ace had been one of 90 riders invited to try out at Silverstone in front of judges Alberto Puig, Jeremy McWilliams and Shuei Nakamoto.

After an intial riding session, the riders were thinned to 50 and then again to 35 and Leigh was one of the riders who made the semi finals but missed out the final places.

Judge Jeremy McWilliams said it had been a hectic day for everyone involved.

He said: “The kids ride on the limit to impress but it’s a process that brings out the best. We would love to fit more in but we’re limited on space.”

Leigh said is was a great experi- ence that will stand him in good stead for the future.

“I feel proud as the standard was very high. What a fantastic experience to have had at 13. I want to thank the British Talent Cup for inviting me and the support from Dad and Mum, family and friends, sorry I didn’t make it, but it was the best I could do, maybe next year.”

Back on the track, Leigh had a great set of results in the latest round of the Thundersport Superteens Series.

Racing at Anglesey, he finished fifth in race one, seventh in race two, sixth in race three and sixth in race four.

“I loved Anglesey and my Aprilia RRV450R - I came away knowing I can run with the front guys, I felt confident, smooth and happy.”
