Rams face Pegasus in bowls Trophy Final
A SIZEABLE crowd witnessed an excellent game in the Monday Trophy Final at Soar Valley BC between Shepshed Rams and Phoenix Pegasus.
With the result evenly balanced on the last end, Rams skip Brian Bontoft drew the winning shot with his last bowl to secure his side a 45-43 (6-2) victory. Wymeswold Steamers hosted Fosseway Romans in their outstanding Division 4 game, the visitors taking all the points 73-43 (8-0), a result that means Sutton Bonington Riversiders will join Sileby Swallows in Division 3 next season.
The final week of the Thursday League clarified the ups and downs within the divisions, but there were a few surprise results. In Division 1 leaders Shepshed North secured the champions slot despite losing at relegated Loughborough Greenfields 66-72 (4-6) who will now join St Margaret’s Maggies in Division 2 next season, whilst second placed Brush Eagles could not secure the five points they needed to take the title, going down one short 59-75 (4-6) at New Lount Hares. In the remaining game in Div1 Thringstone Rangers defeated Wymeswold Wolds 77-59 (8-2). With Syston Fosseway already Champions of Division 2, East Leake Willows 72-67 (4-6) score line against Queens Park Carilloners means the Willows will take the second promotion place. Quorn Millers 84-70 (7-3) win at bottom club Kegworth left them just short on points to challenge the Willows, whilst the final relegation place between Sutton Bonington and Sileby Swifts will be decided this week. Phoenix Flyers, already assured of the Division 3 title, ended their successful season with a 75-55 (6-4) win against Soar Valley Valoars and will be joined in Division 2 next season by Soar Valley. Shepshed South ensured they did not finish at the foot of the table with a comfortable 72-61 (6-4) victory at home to Rothley Knights.
