Leak still not repaired after six weeks
A ‘SERIOUS leak’, coming from a pipe that supplies thousands of homes with water, is still flowing onto a stretch of road six weeks after it was first reported.
The Echo was notified of the leak last week by an Echo reader who felt “nothing was being done” about the water spilling onto Roecliffe Road.
They told the Echo they thought the water was “coming from the wall of the new reservoir, next to the Seven Trent maintenance Building (opposite Swithland Woods)”.
They said: “I originally reported it to Seven Trent Water five weeks ago when it was running down the side of the road, about 10-12in wide, they said they would look into it.
“Two weeks later I was driving by and could see it was now a good 3ft wide and flowing quite fast, clearly somewhat worse. “I rang Seven Trent again. “I told him again it looked as though it was coming from the new reservoir and if it suddenly burst there would be a catastrophe which he agreed so I asked him if he would pass the report on. “Three weeks later I drove through it. “It is now ‘flowing’ across the full width of the road and running at very rapid pace.
“So, five weeks, running 24/7, must be tens of thousands of water lost and still flowing this morning (Monday, August 28) now in it’s sixth week and no sign of workmen.”
The Echo contacted Severn Trent Water on Monday (September 4) and was told repairs are still yet to be carried out.
They also told the Echo the leak is from a large pipe, not the reservoir.
The Severn Trent Water spokesperson said: “The leak is coming from one of our bigger pipes that supplies thousands of homes with water, so our repair requires careful planning as we need to make sure water supplies aren’t affected.”
“We’re really sorry if this leak has caused any inconvenience but we’re sure our customers understand that we need to get this repair right and can’t take any risks.”
