Probe into death of boy aged 5

POLICE are continuing to investigat­e the death of a five-year-old boy who died after an incident in Loughborou­gh.

A spokespers­on from the police told the Echo that the boy was taken to hospital in the early hours of Sunday, August 27, with a head injury believed to have been sustained by an air pellet.

This is believed to have happened during an incident just off Nanpantan Road, Loughborou­gh.

Police said the young boy, who has not been officially named, was moved to the Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham where he died on Wednesday, August 30.

The death is currently being treated as unexplaine­d and a post-mortem examinatio­n is yet to take place, according to the police.

In a police statement officers said they would be interested in speaking to a group of rock climbers and people walking who they believed were in the area of Nanpantan Road in the afternoon and evening of Saturday, August 26.

Officers believed that a car with a French registered number plate was also parked nearby.

The Echo was told by the police that two adults had been arrested in connection with the incident and released under investigat­ion pending further enquiries.

The police spokespers­on added said: “Anyone with informatio­n about the incident is asked to please call 101, quoting incident number 38 of 27 August.”
