Exhibition by the Albert Street Artists
NEW work by those suffering with mental health problems is now on display at the Tangent Gallery in Loughborough.
Creative pieces by Albert Street Artists are being displayed in an exhibition titled ‘Space’ at the Southfield Road gallery until Saturday, September 23.
Residents who call in will see a range of skills, styles and media on show including oil, acrylics, ink pen, mixed media and water colour.
From butterflies to a robot, a number of different subjects have been painted, drawn and sketched.
One of the artists is accom- plished in watercolour and another works in an illustrative graphic novel style to produce multicoloured and often humorous images.
And one creative spent four years as a graffiti artist in Leicester and this resonates in his current output.
The group, which was founded 23 years ago, show their work twice yearly and the summer show is always to a theme interpreted by the individual artists.
Later in the year, usually the end of November, Albert Street Artists hosts a ‘New Works’ show, where members exhibit works of their own subject choice, and also work from the annual Leicestershire Views calendar.
Individual exhibitions also take place.
As well as showcasing the work at the Tangent Gallery, some members have featured in the likes of Town Hall’s Sock Gallery and the Leicester Open.
A spokesperson form Albert Street Artists told the Echo they hope residents will come along and view the exhibition.
They said: “Our engagement with the public is to showcase our talents, support local arts and to foster a positive view of mental health.”
‘Space’ is free to view and is open to the public 11am-4pm on Tuesdays, and Thursdays and 11am-3pm on Saturdays. Most works are for sale.
