Dynamo sign new keeper

- By Harry Waddle

LOUGHBOROUGH Dynamo have signed 19-year-old goalkeeper William Jaaskelainen on loan from League Two side Crewe Alexander.

The young goalkeeper has arrived at the NSG to gain first-team experience, having played for Bolton U23s last season.

After a competent first appearance in the 3-1 home victory over Stamford, he will now look to establish himself as Dynamo’s first choice between the sticks.

Ahead of his full debut, we caught up with his dad – Bolton Wanderers legend and former Finnish international goalkeeper, Jussi Jaaskelainen.

The veteran of 693 games for clubs including Bolton, West Ham and Wigan, said: “This is a great opportunity for William to get some game time in senior football. Although he has played plenty of Under 23 games, he will learn a lot more at this level.”

“Clubs now sign talented young goalkeepers to be third or fourth choice, but as a goalkeeper the only way to develop is by playing regularly. I only came to England at 22, and started playing in the Premier League at 26, so at 19 William has plenty of time to develop.”

After watching his son’s debut at the NSG, Jussi will now follow William’s progress from afar as he begins his coaching career with Teddy Sheringham’s Atletico de Kolkata in the Indian Super League.
