Loogabarooga draws closer

- By Megan Cox megan.cox@trinitymirror.com

FROM a multi-award winning writer and artist, to a creative that will guide you through the rules of ‘worm portraiture’, Loogabarooga Festival promises another year of incredible illustrations and brilliant books.

The children’s literature festival, now in its third year, will see new book trails, free creative drop-in workshops, storytelling sessions, a comic fair, and advice on how to write and illustrate your own book.

It is to run from Wednesday, October 18, to Tuesday, October 24, at a number of venues including Loughborough Library, Loughborough Town Hall and Charnwood Museum.

This year’s festival will feature Lauren Child, the creator of the famous Charlie and Lola characters, Leicester-born Dave Shelton ‘The Accidental Author’, and Will Mabbitt, the brains behind ‘I Can Only Draw Worms’.

Children’s author Colin Granger, from Leicester, is also to bring his new children’s play and picture book Oskar’s Amazing Adventure to the festival - it will be the first time one of his creations has come to his home county.

The Hairy Maclary and Friends Show promises music, singing and family fun at Loughborough Town Hall on Thursday, October 19.

And, if four-legged friends are your thing, then you’ll be pleased to know a Loughborough Dog Show will be in Market Place on Sunday, October 22. Residents are invited to bring their pooches to be in with a chance of winning a prize.

The festival will also feature a comic fair at Town Hall - a first for the event.

The Loogabarooga Festival is organised by Leicestershire Promotions and Charnwood Borough Council, in partnership with Leicestershire County Council and supported by Love Loughborough.

Chris Traill, strategic director for neighbourhoods and community wellbeing at Charnwood Borough Council, said: “We all look forward to welcoming families to this year’s fantastic events and joining in the reading fun!”

Tickets for free and paid events can be booked at loogabarooga. co.uk
