Path by brook is for use by cyclists and pedestrians alike

-

ON SUNDAY afternoon, going for a walk with my husband along the path by the Brook past Morrisons, I was knocked down by a speeding cyclist and sustained severe bruising all down my left side.

We didn’t hear him coming up behind us as he had no form of warning - bell, etc on his vehicle. He didn’t even call out.

We are both elderly but have full use of all our faculties.

He stopped but refused to give his name or address (he was in his 40s I would think) and intimated that as it was a cycle path, I was in the wrong for ‘blocking’ his route. if I had been in poor health (luckily so far I am not) this man’s actions could have had a very different outcome.

Is it not time that the arrogance of cyclists was reined in? Is it not the law to have a warning bell or similar on a bike and ride with due care and attention? The path along the brook is for the use of cyclists and pedestrians alike - not a race track for those who do not pay tax or have to have an MOT or even obey the rules of the road as car owners have to.

Encouraging people to get out and about on bikes for exercise and to reduce the carbon footprint was initially a great idea but now it has gone too far with those partaking having the attitude that they are the entitled ones.

Liz Dimmack.
