People of Loughborough not directly represented
PLEASE may I add my support to those who are asking for a Town Council to represent Loughborough?
I believe a Town Council is necessary because the people of Loughborough are not represented directly by a named body with the appropriate authority. This is a sad lack for the second largest town in the county. We need to control such matters as parks and public spaces, planning and our town centre, and there are other reasons as well.
We know that retailing is changing, making it hard for shops to survive, so that the town centre has to change its role and appeal. Love Loughborough BID does a good job to maintain the vitality of the town centre, and could be even more effective with the support of a designated town council.
In addition, we are in the middle of three major county cities, so that although we are an impor- tant market and university town, we have to fight to maintain our position. A town council for Loughborough would add weight and authority to all we do.
Thank you for giving me the opportunity to share my views.
