THIS HOME HAS THE MAO FACTOR
If you think the films of German-born director Roland Emmerich are dramatic, then you should see his house.
The 61-year-old has several big-budget hits under his belt including 2016’s Independence Day: Resurgence.
But his home in Knightsbridge, central London, is more over the top than any of his productions.
The unusual property, which is one of four he owns around the world, is available for short-term rent and includes the director’s zany art collection and furniture.
Each room is like a film set. The main lounge features a huge mural of Chairman Mao, as does one of the bathrooms, while another is dominated by a stuffed zebra. A third lounge is panelled from floor to ceiling in wood and Emmerich’s study walls are covered with schoolroom chalk board. The property’s most unusual feature is its under-stair cupboard, which houses a full-size waxwork of the Pope. “The opportunity to live in such a unique home doesn’t come around very often and residents will be equally challenged, fascinated and entertained by the décor throughout this property,” says Daniel Bickerdike, lettings manager at KFH South Kensington.
The five-bedroom house, which overlooks leafy Brompton Square and is close to the Victoria & Albert Museum, is available to rent at an eye-watering £34,666 a month via KFH (020 3792 5523).
