THE headteacher of the newlyformed Iveshead School says it is “a very exciting time” for all and has told the Echo of a number of changes.

Shepshed High School and Hind Leys College merged to create the one ‘ through’ school where students have the opportunity to study from age 11 through to 19 on one well-resourced campus.

Headteacher Matthew Parrott, told the Echo the character of Iveshead School is defined by three core values; ‘respect’, ‘enrich’ and ‘succeed’.

He said: “This is a very exciting time for our new school. We will be building on the reputation and results we have achieved in recent years and will continue to provide a caring place of learning for our students.

“Here they can develop the skills and confidence they need to make their way through to the next stage of their lives whether that is higher education, an apprenticeship or employment.

“We offer a supportive and welcoming community environment with respect for all, a dedicated staff and a strong blend of activities, which create an enriching and successful education for all students at Iveshead.”

Mr Parrott told the Echo large purple signs with the new school name and buildings have been installed.

And students are now dressed in blazers with ties in the school colours of purple and gold. They all have lockers and the dining facilities are cashless.

The whole site is now covered by new CCTV, new road markings, speed bumps and fencing to ensure students are safe.

And Post 16 students have a new central study area with lots of computer terminals, and a café.

Younger students have large phase bases also, for study and socialising, and there are new play areas on the field.

Plans for visits to universities and learning about modern apprenticeships are said to be underway.
