Quorn Royals lead the way with 6-0 Premier Cup victory

-

IT WAS a mixed bag for Leicester and Charnwood Sunday Football League sides in the County Cup this week, but overall they faired well.

Quorn Royals top group A of the Premier Cup with two wins from two after a 6-0 drubbing of FC Topps, A great finish after three minutes from Tom Kee started the Royals off in an ideal fashion. This was quickly followed up by two bullet headed own goals in quick succession to put the Royals into a 3-0 half time lead.

A great second half hat trick from Liam Fitzpatrick including a top draw 25 yard free kick which nearly ripped the net out secures a 6-0 win and the Royals even had the luxury of missing a penalty. Birstall Stamford are still to find their form this season and went down 2-1 away at Oadby Athletic.

In Group B Anstey Sports Bar were narrow 4-3 winners at home to Rogue Elite to keep them well in control of their group.

Whilst in group C Finchy’s stumbled, going down 2-4 at home to Oadby Owls.

In the Premier Shield, Iannis beat Fairfield 6-2 in group A, but it was a bad day for in form F.C. Poplar who were beaten 5-2 away at Desford.

In the Sunday Intermediate cup, which is straight knock out, three LCSL sides won to go forward to the next round. Unfortunately, Burton is not one of them, fresh from their away league win last week they made a rather tentative start to their tie against FC Tumar from Blaby. Although matching their opponents in terms of possession they failed to turn chances into goals. The hosts opened the scoring halfway through the first half with a speculative shot from distance and went on to add two more goals before half-time. Burton produced a better showing in the second period but came up against the F.C Tumar keeper in sparkling form. Some decisive finishing from the home side allowed F.C Tumar to double their lead in the second period before Nikki Harvey got a late consolation goal for Burton.

Sileby Athletic go into the hat though with four goals in normal time from Adam Brind. Despite Sileby dominating for most of the game, Avin a Laugh scored in the 85th minute and again in the fifth minute of time added on to take the game to extra time. Josh Moore scoring the winner in extra time.

Leicester Bharat had a great 3-1 win away at F.C. Harambe. The remaining game saw two of our sides up against each other, and it was Syston Brookside who went through at the expense of F.C. Hathern with a 3-1 win.

Not such good news for LCSFL sides in the Trophy though as firstly Athletic Sportsman clutched defeat from the jaws of victory, as despite being 4-1 up and coasting on 88 minutes, contrived to concede four goals in the remaining time to go down 5-4.

Whilst Winchester Phoenix weren’t at the races against Groby Town Honey Badgers, losing 7-3. Birstall A though bucked the trend with a 2-1 win at home to Merry Monarch.

The performance of the day must go to Racing Alleno in the Sunday Vase with their 11-4 victory over Kingsway Rangers. Man of the match Jay Brackenridge with an impressive seven goal personal tally, Ash Wright with two, Leon Stevens and Aaron March adding to the rout.

New Parks Rangers continue their unbeaten start to the season, unfortunately at the expense of another member club with a 4-2 win over Dishley Rangers, Jake Tomlinson with two goals aided and abetted with goals from Connor Kiely and Man of the Match Ellis Albion. Loughborough Stags came from 0-1 down at half time on a soggy surface to beat Braunstone Trinity 2-1 with an 85th minute winner from Joe Turner after a second half equaliser from Will Kyle.

GNG had a great win over New Forest Rovers, a hat trick for Jimi Rana the highlight of the match, Jarrad Singh and Rav Dhillon making up the score. Syston Brookside Reserves went out at Lutterworth and Greenhill Sparrows Reserves were bundled out 6-0 at home to Wigston Fields Reserves.
