MIDLAND FOOTBALL LEAGUE

HAUGHMOND 0 LOUGHBOROUGH UNI FC 1 LOUGHBOROUGH Uni FC ended their recent losing spell with a hard earned lone goal win in Shrewsbury against Midland League newcomers Haughmond.

It took a first half stoppage time penalty to seal the very welcome points, plus some determined defending.

The Students have found goal hard to come by in the league this season but they thought they’d found the net early on only for the goal to be ruled out for offside.

Haughmond did have more of the play and went close on a couple of occasions but the Scholars were always in the game but chances were few and far between.

However, right on the stroke of halftime a penalty was awarded to the Students for a foul on Boachie and from the resulting kick Alec Read netted.

Although the results haven’t always gone the Students way there can be no denying their defensive play has improved over the early part of the season and although Haughmond had plenty of possession after the break they rarely threatened the Students goal and manager Alex Ackerley must be reasonably pleased with that aspect of their game and absolutely delighted with the three points.

Down in Shropshire Oliver Davis had an outstanding game closely followed by Joel Bonner and Jacob Croud.

This weekend the Scholars are at home to Rocester in the Midland league and the game kicks off at 3pm.
