Diwali lights switched on by Mayor

THE Mayor of Charnwood switched on the Diwali celebratio­n lights at Loughborou­gh Town Hall.

This year, the annual event took place on Monday, October 9 and the lights were switched on at 7pm by the Mayor of Charnwood, Coun Pauline Ranson.

Diwali, or the festival of light, is a Hindu festival celebrated every year all over the world. The festival falls in either October or November and the date is determined by the position of the moon. This year Diwali falls on Thursday, October 19. The celebratio­ns take place over five days, from Sunday, October 17 until Thursday, October 21.
