Hanging basket workshop in school

-

COBDEN Primary School’s young gardeners had a treat when In Bloom stalwart Harry Cook led a hanging basket workshop.

Harry helped the youngsters in the gardening club design and plant six different styles of winter hanging basket for the school playground.

Flowers used included pansies, violas, ivy and crocuses. Feature plants included a small conifer, ornamental grass and a wallflower or gilliver.

After the workshop, Harry said: “You know, I really enjoyed that myself.”

Gardening club organisers Jane Squires and Barbara Kormos said that the children really enjoyed the occasion and learnt a lot. Comments from the pupils included: “I really love the gardening club” and “We can water them and watch them grow”.

In Bloom community vice chair, Mike Jones, who sponsored the event and helped Harry and the children, said: “It is great to see young people taking such an interest in gardening, long may it continue.”
