The case rests with the president
JOHN Catt and Arthur Gould cover much of what ought to be mentioned in discussion about Donald Trump.
However, the recent mass shooting in America of innocents caught in a confined space was a tragedy on a grand scale and the President of the USA gave a limp response to this event with no analysis as to historically why it could happen, added to which there was no mention of a gun control review or the introduction of future checks and balances.
Yes, there is within the American constitution, the right of every American citizen to bear arms. But (and it’s a significant but) this legislation was intended to lay the foundation of a militia with the boundaries of the USA.
The original intention slipped away over time, so we now have a free-for-all firing game throughout the USA.
The advocates of personal retention of arms at the present level hold to the idea that a “good man” with a gun could easily counter the actions of a “bad man” with a gun. Really; over a distance, across two roads, and with the accuracy to hit a target in the 32 second floor of a high-rise hotel ... the case rests on the president’s desk.
