-

A KARATE student from Loughborough is celebrating after coming second in her first championship event.

Ten-year-old Carla Alexandrescu from the Stealth Black Belt Academy in Hathern was taking part in the Tag Team championships with Kai Smith and won seven of their initial 10 fights (drawing one) to reach the final of their event in Coalville.

In the final Carla and Kai fought really hard against their opponents Jack Bromley and Scarlett Clark, but in the end were edged out 15-13.

Head coach Aaron Harris said he was really proud of her achievement.

“Carla is currently an orange/white belt in sport karate and she was competing against much higher belts.

“Sport karate is fast and furious - it’s almost like a game of tag but with punches and kicks! This was Carla’s first official fight night and she did amazingly well.”
