Town have to settle for a share of the spoils

-

HARBORNE 1LOUGHBOROUGH TOWN 1ST XI 1 AFTER a good win against Worcester last weekend, Loughborough Town Mens 1st XI were well prepared for the challenge that lay before them.

Town started the game with promise, threatening the Harborne defence from the push back. Harborne began to settle into the game and created some chances of their own, although the Town defence were able to deal with them comfortably.

However, it was Harborne who struck first - capitalising on a small lapse in concentration of Town’s defence.

After threatening the Harborne goal on numerous occasions it was Town’s Nick Morris who found himself in the opposition D, in unknown territory. Morris was able to weave his way into the D and unleash a ferocious push shot, which, even though it had hit a Harborne foot en route, seemed to still have the power to break a hole in the net.

The goal was awarded but Town’s celebrations were short-lived as a discussion with the opposition team led the umpire to reverse his decision and the goal was disallowed. The resulting short corner awarded to Town was flicked wide by Leo Guy.

Although deflated, Town were not defeated and continued to threaten the Harborne goal repeatedly.

Finally, it was Luca Hargreaves who struck for Town pushing the ball into the goal.

After some close calls it was Town who struck again - Ian Johnston also found himself in the Harborne D, he crossed the ball and Mike White tapped the ball in at the back post.

However, to Town’s disbelief, it too was disallowed as Johnston was considered to have swung dangerously before crossing the ball. The game ended 1-1. Although disappointed to not have won, Town secured a valuable away point against a good team.
