-

UNIVERSITY OF NOTTINGHAM 3XI 6 LOUGHBOROUGH TOWN MENS 3XI 0 LOUGHBOROUGH Town Mens 3rd XI had a tough start to the season as they took on a strong Nottingham University side.

Slightly depleted in numbers after the summer, and perhaps still carrying a bit of the holidays with them, Town nevertheless played with a lot of energy, and certainly put the opposition under pressure.

The first half saw Town absorb a lot of pressure in their own half, and while the defending was excellent from the whole team, Tom Smith’s spectacular performance in goal undoubtedly kept Town in the game and earnt him man of the match.

Chances were created up front mostly on the counter attack, with a particularly close effort from Jono Griffiths, just missing the far post off a reverse volley. Towards the end of the half Town suffered an injury as Mark Dalby strained his calf. Unfortunately Town were not able to hold out Nottingham indefinitely, and finished the half 2-0 down.

The second half started strongly, with a lot of energy devoted to putting Nottingham under pressure. Short corners were won by Town, but sadly not converted. As the team suffered the strain of only having one sub remaining, Nottingham began to secure the upper hand, and despite strong performances from every member of the team, Town finished the game 6-0 down.
