GCSE exam data is published by Govt website
DATA has been published that shows how schools and colleges in Loughborough have performed in the latest round of GCSE exams.
The results, calculated by government education experts, are said to be an early indication of how well schools and students have done.
Every establishment has been judged based on new complicated criteria set by exam experts.
Averages are now taken based on a child’s performance throughout their entire studies and then judged against the performance of other children across the country.
The average based on how well pupils have performed in up to eight qualifications is called the ‘Attainment 8’ score.
It is this that is judged against the performance of pupils nationally to calculate the ‘Progress 8 score’.
To complicate the matter further, the government website that published the data - www.compareschool-performance.service.gov.uk - states negative and positive Progress 8 scores do not necessarily reflect if a school has done bad or good.
According to the website, a score of 0 means pupils have ‘made similar progress during secondary school to similar pupils across England’.
Above 0 means ‘more progress’ and below 0 means ‘less progress’.
It also states a negative progress score ‘does not mean pupils made no progress, or the school has failed, rather it means pupils in the school made less progress than other pupils across England’.
The Progress 8 score is also accompanied with a ‘description’ on the site.
The Progress 8 scores, plus description, and Attainment 8 scores for Loughborough schools and colleges are as follows:
• Limehurst Academy: Progress 8 = 0.37 (above average), Attainment 8 = 47.4
• Woodbrook Vale School: Progress 8 = 0.36 (above average), Attainment 8 = 52.9
• De Lisle Catholic School: Progress 8 = -0.11 (average), Attainment 8 = 47.5
• Hind Leys Community College: Progress 8 = -0.14 (average), Attainment 8 = 40.5
• Charnwood College: Progress 8 = -0.44 (below average), Attainment 8 = 43.3
• Humphrey Perkins School: Progress 8 = -0.56 (well below average), Attainment 8 = 42.8
• Rawlins Academy: Progress 8 = -0.77 (well below average), Attainment 8 = 41.4
A more complete picture of how schools and colleges have performed is said to be published by the Department for Education next year.
