Christchurch keep it short with name change

-

AFTER almost 50 years of entertaining residents, a Loughborough-based theatre company has decided to re-brand itself and take on a new name.

As of next year, Christchurch Theatre Club will be continuing as ‘CTC’.

A spokesperson from the group told the Echo Christchurch will celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2020 and the society felt “that the time was right for a slight re-branding and modernising of the current image”.

Christchurch Theatre Club takes its name from its history; it was formed in 1970 and was originally made up of members of the Sunday School at Christchurch Methodist Church in Shepshed.

The group performed its first show, ‘Cin- derella Revisited’, in the small upstairs hall at the church.

The spokesperson told the Echo: “Whilst not wanting to deviate too much from our name Christchurch Theatre Club, CTC still keeps our identity but has enabled us to create a new, simpler logo, and is much easier to use on social media platforms.

“People will get to see our new logo on all material connected to The Best Little W****house in Texas and for future shows moving forward.

“We are very excited about the lead up to our 50th anniversary with some exciting productions planned.”

It seems 2018 is all about ‘trying something new’ for the company as it will be taking to the stage of Loughborough Town Hall in January with Priscilla Queen of the Desert.

The production has never been presented in Loughborough before but has been a big hit with audiences elsewhere.

The extravagant musical will see the men of the society donning heels and taking centre stage.

The group will also be at Town Hall in May with The Best Little W****house in Texas - ‘a rollicking, hootenanny of a musical comedy’, based on the true story of a legendary brothel.
