Annual exhibition

-

THE 63rd Annual Exhibition presented by the Sileby Photographic Society, and staged at the Community Centre, was officially declared open by the Mayor of Charnwood, Coun Pauline Ranson on Monday, October 16.

Colin Machin, President of the Society, welcomed the mayor to the week-long exhibition who, in turn, congratulated members of the Society on their quite magnificent efforts in being able to present an Exhibition of such high quality and on such a scale. Coun Ranson then proceeded to present the awards to the winners of the competing panels of six prints and six digital images entered by invited Societies, and these were Nottingham Outlaws Photographic Society and Leicester Forest Photographic Society respectively.

All the exhibits entered by Sileby’s own members had been judged earlier by Ralph Bennett, ARPS, CPAGB, a distinguished photographer in his own right, who commented on the very high standard of prints and images on display which had presented him with no easy task when choosing the eventual winners of each category. He was delighted to present the awards as follows:

Best Projected Images - Landscape Richard Storier; Portrait Alun Williams; Nature Gianpiero Ferrari; Overall Gianpiero Ferrari.

Best Print - Landscape Richard Storier; Portrait Alun Williams; Nature Kevin Blood; Monochrome Alun Williams; Colour Print Richard Storier.

A large number of exhibits in all categories had been entered covering a diverse and comprehensive range of subjects reflecting individual photographer’s interests and preferences. Over 270 prints were on display, together with 14 panels containing 12 prints each which had been entered for the recent 12-Shot Challenge competition. The winner of this competition, which had been judged earlier, was Board H entered by Richard Storier.

There were over 200 projected images to view, including panels of six images each from eight other local Photographic Societies. The audio visual show entitled ‘Charnwood – Part 1’ provided superb viewing and illustrated the Soar Valley and surrounding villages and towns. ‘Charnwood – Part 2’ will feature at next year’s Exhibition.

The images included within the AV show were a representation of the work of the membership of SPS and, projected against a backdrop of accompanying music, ‘Charnwood – Part 1’ was produced, a not inconsiderable achievement by all those involved.

As usual, the Exhibition was very well received by members of the public who provided very positive feed-back and visitors had turned out in numbers reflecting an excellent attendance throughout the week.

The next meeting will be held on Monday, October 30, when Richard Storier and Malcolm Coulton, members of the Society, will present a selection of images from their own portfolios. Visitors and prospective new members are always welcome to attend the meetings which commence at 7.45pm for 8pm and are held at the Sileby Community Centre.
